All change at the top as British and Irish horses withdrawn
Two horses have been withdrawn overnight from the FEI World Championship Eventing U25 at Millstreet in a blow for both the British and Irish teams.
The overnight leader, Alice Casburn’s great cross-country horse Topspin, has been withdrawn from the British team, as has Sammy Davis Junior, ridden by Jennifer Kuenhle for Ireland and placed 10th individually.
All the remaining 31 horses passed the final horse inspection this morning.
Great Britain is still in the lead with a rail in hand going into the final show jumping phase and medal decider, but Germany is now in the silver medal position, having overtaken Ireland by a mere one penalty.
Ireland’s Tom Nestor finds himself in the high-pressure position of individual leader and last to go in the show jumping arena; he does not currently have a rail in hand over Germany’s Calvin Bockmann. The U25 world number one also has no margin for error over Britain’s Jasmine Underwood who is now in the individual bronze medal position.
The show jumping phase starts at 1.30pm.
