Millstreet Pony & Young Rider Show Preview
Bumper Week Ahead at Millstreet’s Green Glens Arena
Millstreet’s Green Glens Arena is gearing up for one of its busiest weeks of the year, with a packed programme of show jumping, breeding-focused classes, and family entertainment running from Tuesday through to Sunday.
Tuesday & Wednesday: Tour Grand Finals
The week opens with the Youngster, Baby, Five Star, and Superstar Tour Grand Finals, taking place across Tuesday and Wednesday. Pre-qualified combinations from throughout the season will compete for the 2026 titles, in an event organised by Oonagh Kennedy.
While the Grand Finals are reserved for combinations who have competed on the circuit throughout the year, riders are also welcome to enter as HC (hors concours) combinations.
Thursday to Sunday: Ponies, Young Riders, and the Pony Premier Series
From Thursday, the focus shifts to Ireland’s top pony and young rider combinations, with young riders competing in the U25 category — a signature feature of the Millstreet calendar.
Alongside the traditional jumping classes, ranging from 60cm up to 1.30m for ponies and young riders, this year’s programme includes several new additions:
- Castlefield Sporthorses Pony Premier Series – Main Arena, Saturday, July 4th
- PRL Pony Pathway Series
- Boomerang.ie 6/7 Year Old Starfinder
- Millstreet Pony Young Irelander & National Discovery for Young Ponies: Friday July 3rd
- DAFM Pony Studbook Series on Thursday July 3rd
Entries for jumping classes are open now via SJI Live.
Entries for Millstreet’s Pony Young Irelander and Pony Discovery classes are open via the Millstreet website. These classes are funded by the Breeding Grant Initiative under National Breeding Services, with thanks to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and delivered by Horse Sport Ireland.
A Week to Remember
With over 500 ponies and horses stabling on site across the week, Millstreet is set for one of its busiest gatherings yet. Evening entertainment is planned for children and adults alike throughout the event. An entertainment schedule due to be published early this week.
Sporting fans won’t be left out either — the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Finals will be televised in the Main Arena Marquee Bar on Saturday and Sunday.
And it’s not just the horses and ponies taking centre stage this year. Dog owners are encouraged to bring their four-legged friends along, as Millstreet hosts its first ever Doggie Derby, giving pooches their own moment in the spotlight.
With top-level competition, breeding initiatives supporting the next generation of Irish sport horses, and entertainment for the whole family, it promises to be a memorable week at the Green Glens Arena.
