Millstreet International Horse Trials, presented by Connollys RED MILLS, ran its usual comprehensive range of classes alongside the U25 Championship.

Tom McEwen, who is scheduled to represent Great Britain in Aachen next month, had a confidence-boosting run in the Noel C Duggan Structural Steel CCI4*-S, scoring a one-two on Brookfield Future News and The Fieldmaster; he was also eighth on Isa.

The CCI4*-L, presented by Connollys RED MILLS, saw victory for New Zealander Clarke Johnstone, who is also bound for Aachen, riding Domasco. Britain’s Isabelle Cook was second on Cymoon ‘F’ Z and Sam Ecroyd, who led the first two phases, finished third on Bloomfield Manuscript, having hit four show jumps. 

Italian Giovanni Ugolotti, a regular visitor to Millstreet, won the CCI3*-L, presented by Horse Sport Ireland, riding Cooley Rebound. The cross-country leader, Hallie Coon representing the USA on Boleybawn Oliva, had two show jumps down and finished second.

The Foran Equine CCI3*-S fell to perennial Millstreet competitor Kevin McNab from Australia riding Newmarket Amy, with Ireland’s senior squad rider Ian Cassells in second and third on Cooley Capri Sun and Rutland Flamenco.

It was a perfect build-up to Aachen for Ian Cassells, who also won the Carr Day Martin CCI2*-L riding MGH Rioja. He was third for good measure, on BT Just Special, his two horses split by runner-up Heidi Coy from Britain on Tisrara Timothy.
